It’s fitting in more ways than one that my guest on today’s episode of Hosting With Heart, Rachel Walters, named her property as a welcome gesture towards those she shares a kinship with, because following our chat I also felt a real kinship with her.
Rachel, owner and manager of The Kindred, a warm and stylishly decorated apartment based in the Canberra suburb of Braddon, is a Sydney based former scholarship director and long-time devotee of all things pre-loved.
Having been fortunate enough to secure a piece of prized real estate in one of Canberra’s most vibrant localities, Rachel took the opportunity to use the property as a canvas for her to fully indulge her love of secondhand furniture, artwork and homewares, purchasing only the linen and towels for the property new.
And the resulting interior is phenomenal – and completely original – a testament to her steadfast dedication to sustainability and to avoiding at all costs contributing to the thousands upon thousands of tonnes of furniture waste generated by each of our capital cities every year.
It was not only a pleasure, but a true source of both inspiration and motivation speaking to Rachel a couple of weeks back. I hope you enjoy our chat and please also check out her newly published article on the Hosting With Heart blog about how you, too, can create a beautiful, unique home exclusively using pre-loved items.
