Description
Crooked Chimney Cottage is a simple miners cottage that has since discovered the finer things in life. A world away, yet close to so many adventures for those that want to chase them.
Overlooking roaming resident sheep, and the mesmerising St Paul’s River with a chimney that seems held together by the stories it could tell.
The Area
Just an hour from Launceston and around 45 minutes from the Launceston Airport, Avoca resides between two rivers, the South Esk and St Paul’s. The Esk Highway passes through the town and is a beautiful drive that meanders past farmland, rivers and valleys of the Fingal Valley. First settled in the 1830’s, historic buildings are a feature of the town, such as the St Thomas Anglican Church and the Union Hotel Avoca.
The Doing
At the gateway to the east coast of Tasmania, Avoca is the first stop on the Esk Highway. Stroll past the historic buildings, enjoy a cool drink at the Union Hotel, or paddle in the fresh water of the South Esk River.
Bustling during the day with travellers on their way to, and from, the coast, transforms into a peaceful rural escape at dusk.
The cottage is a great base for exploring the region – whether mountain biking at St Helens, hiking to Hardy Falls, or touring the vineyards of Cranbrook. All these are within an hour’s drive whichever direction you choose to go.
The Not Doing
Crooked Chimney Cottage is set up for breathing in the peaceful country views and enjoying the moment. Take a pause on life as you gaze at the river below, watch the birds, or enjoy a chat with the sheep who roam the paddock below.
The cottage has two bedrooms, a full kitchen, Wi-Fi, TV, cosy wood heater, luxury linen bedding, electric blankets, wall heaters, basic provisions, and firewood. There is plenty of parking and it is easily located being just a stones throw from the Esk Highway.
