Description
If you’re looking to enjoy all that Launceston and its surrounds offer, but are wanting to escape, unwind and reconnect with your loved one as well then FLAX at Duck Reach is the perfect choice for your next getaway.
FLAX is part of a uniquely Tasmanian story as one of four workers cottages, built in 1895, as part of the construction and operation of the Duck Reach Power Station – the very first hydro-electric project in all of Australia.
Located at the end of the Cataract Gorge, and situated high above the South Esk River, the property has been designed as an adults only space accommodating up to 3 guests. Non-walking babies are also welcome.
The interior is a wonderful blend of the old and the new, woven together in a delightfully eclectic combination to create a calm, private space where you’ll feel a million miles away from anywhere.
Whether you choose to cook, bird watch, ponder, dream or just be still, FLAX is the perfect adults retreat.
With sustainability in mind, natural materials have been used wherever possible, including reclaimed Tasmanian Oak and Huon Pine. Sumptuous flax linen bedding, linen curtains, throws and vintage rugs, original artworks, antiques and even an original cedar partition wall from an old bank in Launceston, which has been restored as the fabulous bedhead, all await you.
The primary suite has a queen-size bed, walk-in robe, private balcony and beautiful flax linen bedding to help you sleep soundly.
A smaller bedroom, for an additional traveller, has ample storage and an antique king single bed frame, donned with luxurious bedding offering oodles of comfort.
The bathroom and kitchen are fully equipped with everything you could possibly need (although note there is no dishwasher) to ensure you don’t have to leave the cottage unless you wish to.
Heating, via electric wall panel heaters, is provided throughout the whole home for your comfort.
Please note that the driveway, access to the front door and the garden of the cottage are situated on a slanted block of land making it not accessible for people with mobility needs.
FLAX at Duck Reach is the perfect accommodation choice for couples, honeymooners, bushwalkers, nature lovers, bird watchers, historians, writers, remote workers or the solo intrepid traveller.
Its one of a kind unique location offers seclusion and serenity, but the Launceston CBD is only a 7-minute drive away. Not to mention the beautiful North-West region of Tasmania, which will be at your fingertips.
With views from every window, come and experience this magical place for yourself. Mother nature, amazing wildlife, wonderful history, peace and quiet and pure serenity await you.
Guest access: Access is via a key lock box.
Please Note: FLAX is an adults only retreat. Babies (non-walking/mobile) are also welcome.
A private parking space is provided at the front of the property. Guests will need to make a short 20 metre walk up a fairly steep path to the side gate to gain entry. The garden area and steps are also steep and not level due to the age of the property. For this reason, the property is not ideal for people with physical mobility access needs.
